John 6:35

35 And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.

Three things that Jesus proclaimed in v35. 1. He was the bread of life 2. He who comes to Jesus shall never hunger 3. He who believes in Jesus shall never thirst. Now let’s examine why Jesus used the term bread. Jesus repeated 11 times in the Gospel of John that He was the bread that came from heaven and He who comes to Him shall never hunger.

Let us look at the process of how the bread was made during Jesus time. First, stalks of grain were cut from the grain fields. Then they were taken to the threshing floor and beaten so that the grain would separate from the stalks. After that the grain was put in a mortar and pounded, the grain would eventually turn into powder. The powder was then kneaded with little water and baked in an oven for the final product which we call it bread.

Jesus Christ came to earth just for one purpose, that is to die on the cross by fulfilling what was mentioned in the scriptures. Just like the grain, Jesus Christ was separated from His Father and was dragged like a sheep to the slaughter house, and was beaten. His flesh was broken and His face was unrecognizable and finally He was nailed to the cross. But on the third day our Lord came out victorious as He rose from the dead. Lord Jesus Christ is the bread that came from heaven. Tried and tested. Whoever feeds on this bread of life will never hunger and whoever believes in Jesus Christ that He is indeed the Son of God shall never thirst. May our Lord be with you as you meditate on the living bread of life today. In Jesus name! Amen.

Maranatha!
