Lamentations 3:24
24 “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,
“Therefore I hope in Him!”
The book of Lamentations was written by the prophet Jeremiah. The Hebrew translation of the word portion is inheritance. A true born again believer receives Christ as his or her inheritance at the time of new birth.
When someone inherits a property like land or money or other investments, they are immensely blessed. Inheritance is something that you don’t work for it. Receiving inheritance solely depends on the giver. A person giving precious things as an inheritance to someone totally depends on his or her grace and mercy. They choose to give it to the ones they love the most. Sometimes we hear stories of parents not leaving their inheritances to their own children or spouses leaving their inheritance to someone else.
Prophet Jeremiah proclaims that the Lord is his inheritance. Can we say the same thing? When can one proclaim that the Lord is his/her inheritance? When one treats the Lord as his portion. Our hands are a portion, our eyes, feet etc., are portions of our bodies. One cannot stop using the hands or the eyes or the feet or any part of our body. It is just impossible to do that. They all work together for the common good of the body. This is how God designed us. So, if we make Christ our portion, then we have to use Christ in all circumstances. No one who receives Christ as their inheritance say that they are not going to use Him. People who are born again and have received Christ as their portion have to put Christ into use. Christ is not just a hand or feet or eyes in us. He is the Head of our body. Nothing happens without His approval in the believers lives.
Let’s all from this day declare that the Lord Jesus Christ is our portion and let us put our hope only in Him. May our Lord Jesus Christ bless us all!
In Jesus precious name! Amen.
Maranatha!
