Defilement comes from within us
Matthew 15:18
18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man.
For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies. These are the things which defile a man. Jesus is not talking about the physical heart of a human being. The term heart is used as a metaphor with respect to the nature of man. Beginning with the fall of man, man’s intention has always been sinful. The first murder took place in the first family due to the envious nature between blood brothers. Even before that mother of all humanity Eve fell for the deceiving words of Satan in spite of God warning Adam not to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
The way defilement occurs in us according to the Word of God is by allowing ourselves to surrender to the lusts or the desires of this world. Man is easily attracted to the tangential things of this world thereby falling for them without even knowing that it is evil in the sight of God. This causes man to live an unholy life, a life living against the will of God. Lust or desires enters into our body through our senses. There are five basic human senses: touch, sight, hearing, smell and taste. The sensing organs associated with each sense send information to the brain to help us understand and perceive the world around us. Apart from this even hands and feet participate in evil desires too.
Make no mistake, the senses that God gave us are to be used in building the Kingdom of God. But many use it for their own gratification. Jesus came into this world to fix man’s disobedience or the sin problem first by renewing the nature of man by teaching inward obedience that leads to outward obedience to the Word of God. Obviously the sinful things outside of man control the inside heart of man thus making man rebel against God. Whereas Christ’s nature builds us from inside out thus making each one of us into a new creation. Christ the Messiah is the only One who can remove the defilement from within us. How did He do that you might wonder! Jesus died for me and you by carrying His own cross to the Calvary. He was lifted up high and was nailed to the cross. He shed His own blood and emptied Himself so that our nature of defilement would be cleansed beginning from inside to the outside.
May Christ Jesus remove the defilement from within us and renew our lives with His nature. Let’s give glory to the one and only immortal God the Father through His Son Lord Jesus Christ.
Maranatha!
