In the beginning

Genesis 1:1

In the beginning God ………

Today we will meditate on the book of Genesis chapter 3 verse 6. “So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate.” Was it wrong for the woman to eat from the tree that God forbid Adam and Eve to eat? Of course it was wrong for Eve to eat the forbidden fruit. Genesis 2:15-17 says, that the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

And God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a help meet for him. Make no mistake that this helper was comparable to Adam. Meaning a perfect assistant. Eve’s only job was to assist Adam in his daily routine. Have you ever heard of an office assistant or a personal assistant? These positions are designed to help the managers in their day to day activities. The manager (here it means a person in charge) totally relies or rather depends on this helper or assistant. If the assistant misguides the person in charge, then that is going to cause a problem.

The word comparable means to be on par in knowledge and know-how. At some point Adam disclosed everything to Eve what God had taught him. We see this in Genesis chapter 3 vs 2-3. And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’ ” So, whatever Adam knew, Eve knew it too. Eve was equally intelligent as Adam. The greatest mystery of the beginning of the creation is that God made Eve out of Adam. In Genesis 3:6, Eve calls Adam, her husband. So, at some point Adam and Eve got married. Jesus speaks of this in a different way. The two will become one, He says this in Matthew 19:4. (Cont’d)

May our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ bless us all!
