In the beginning
Genesis 1:1
1 In the beginning God ………
The fourth thing that God said to the serpent was that the serpent would eat dust. I believe that it is God’s way of saying metaphorically that the life of snake will be worthless. There are many places in the scripture where dust is mentioned. For example in Genesis chapter 3 verse 19, God says to Adam that “For dust you are, And to dust you shall return”. In other words man has no value without God’s grace . All the animals, birds and sea creatures that God created will eventually return to dust. There’s no greatness about them. A lion is great as long as it is alive but a dead lion is of no value. Even his own family will reject him. Similarly the snake shall eat the dust throughout its life with no hope.
Many times we hear a saying that someone biting the dust. It means that someone either fell and died or simply put died. It does not mean that someone opened their mouth and bit the dust/ground literally. Biting the dust means blending with the ground or the dust. Serpent eating the dust simply means according to the Hebrew idioms signifying humiliation and defeat: The snake “eating dust” is a metaphor that implies that God has humbled the serpent for instigating the fall of man.
The bottom line here is that God does not tolerate His blood bought children being persuaded by the devil and his agents. In this case Adam was created in God’s own image but the devil in the form of snake distorted God’s own image by corrupting Adam. For centuries God’s children have been persecuted and martyred by various ways and methods. Do you think that God will be quiet? The most dreadful thing that happened in the history of this universe is that God’s only begotten Son’s image was distorted on the cross. In Colossians chapter 1 verse 15, “He (Jesus) is the image of the invisible God”. Do you think God will be quiet for distorting His Son’s image? No. That is the reason those who surrender to Satan’s tricks and are being deceived will be severely punished and judged according to the rod of God. (Cont’d)
