In the beginning

Genesis 1:1

In the beginning God ………

The fifth thing that God said to the serpent was that the serpent would eat dust all the days of its life. It means that the snake shall live a low life throughout its life with no hope of redemption. The lesson we learn from this is that God values us more than all cattle and more than any beast of the field. Because when God said to the serpent, that it will be cursed more than all cattle and all the beasts of the field, it was the most humiliating experience for the snake. God showed the devil and the serpent who’s in charge. But in Matthew 10:31, Jesus says, “Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows”. Metaphorically speaking we are valued more than any creature that God has ever created. Even though Adam sinned against God, God did not abandon Adam. But instead God made the garments out of skin and covered Adam and Eve out of their guilt and shame.

As I mentioned previously, Adam was made in God’s own image. God’s image is precious in the sight of God. God will not allow anything to happen to His image. If the devil deceives any man, it means that the devil is messing up the with image of God. So, the end result will not be a happy ending for the devil. One thing to point out here is that the man who has been deceived will also experience the consequences of being disobedient to God’s commands. Look what happened to Adam and his family. He had to toil for food all the days of his life. Eve had to go through the birth pains in child bearing. Next thing we know is that Adam and Eve were kicked out of the garden. From a life of intimate fellowship with God everyday to a life away without God. Even today many people live without God in this world for they do not know what it means to live with God. Then Adam lost his second child Abel. In fact he was murdered by his own brother Cain. The peace in the family was shaken. After this we read that Cain went away from the presence of God. These are just a few things that happened to Adam for being disobedient to the Word of God.

The story took a worse turn both for the snake and the man. The difference is that the snake has been cursed forever. But the man since he was created in the image of God was given a new life by God Himself when God made them the new garments out of skin. Similarly God covered our shame through the blood of His Son our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Thus we now are the redeemed children of God. (Cont’d)

May our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ bless us all!

Maranatha!
