In the beginning
Genesis 12:2
I will bless you
God promised Abraham that He was going to bless him. But there was a condition that God wanted Abraham to meet. God wanted Abraham to leave his country. As I mentioned in my previous blog, it is not an easy task to move out of one’s country and move to another nation unprepared. In this case we see that Abraham immediately departed from Haran to the promised land. God gave Abraham very clear instructions to leave his father’s household and other family members and travel to the place that God was going to show him.
Abraham along with his wife Sarah and Lot his brother’s son, departed from Haran. God did not suggest that Abraham take Lot along with him. Later on in the history not only does Lot experience many problems but Abraham goes through a lot trouble. That is the reason it is very critical to what God is saying to us and obey His commandments promptly. Even today everyone who is truly a born again believer has to carefully examine the Word of God and not compromise with anything no matter how difficult it is going to be. God’s Word is non-negotiable nor could be misused for our satisfaction.
Jesus said in Matthew 10:34: “Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword.” The purpose for which Lord Jesus Christ came into this world the first time was to separate His children Chosen by God from this world. In verse 35 Jesus declared, ‘For I have come to ‘set a man against his father’. Terah and his ancestors were idol worshippers. Once God chose Abraham, He had to separate him from his own family members. Many times in our lives we experience similar things. It could be the family structure for some, or could be friends or vices and addictions and so on from which we are unable part to serve God. When God choses us to separate from the things mentioned above, we have to leave them immediately. Such is the call from God. Nothing else should matter.
The scripture says that Abraham after the Lord spoke to him departed. What is our spiritual condition today? Have we heard the call from God? Are we prepared to separate ourselves from the world? May our Lord Jesus Christ be with us for now and forevermore! Amen.
Maranatha!
