Genesis 17:1
The Lord appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am Almighty God; walk before Me and be blameless.
Abraham’s name was Abram until he was ninety years old. The Lord appeared to Abram and told him to walk before Him and be blameless. What does it mean to walk before God? If we carefully examine the above verse, God is saying to walk in front of Him. That means our back is watched by God always. Sometimes we let the young kids to walk ahead of us so that we can watch their moves. So, if they accidentally run away from us, we can quickly get hold of them. God is saying to Abram, that He is continuously watching him.
Many times we try to walk behind God. We think that God cannot see what we are doing behind His back. The second point that God told Abram was to be blameless. God is not only saying this to Abram but to everyone who claims to be His child. We have to learn to walk like Abram in front of God and still be blameless. This is how we are to please God. In order to walk before God and be blameless, we need the help of the Holy Spirit. He is the only One who can guide us. A Christian has to engage in reading the scriptures and meditate and spend much of the time in prayer. By adopting this lifestyle, we are unable to give time to other things of the world. Everyone of us who claim to be a born again believer need to immerse in the Word of God.
After this God spoke to Abram and made a covenant with him to multiply Abram exceedingly. Can you believe God making a covenant with a human being that He created? Yes. We can believe God’s Word, that God made a covenant with Abram. What is a covenant you might wonder? A covenant is a binding agreement or a promise ratified between two parties. It is an unbreakable bond. Because it needs both the parties approval to dissolve the covenant. God being the first party would never allow the covenant to be dissolved. God made the covenant with Abram to multiply him exceedingly. Theologically no number can be put to the word ‘exceedingly’. Only God would know that number. The Word of God or the Bible is filled with God made covenants with man. Man may break the covenant but God will never break His covenants.
May our Lord open our hearts and minds and speak to us through His Spirit. In Jesus precious name. Amen.
Maranatha!
