Genesis 17:7
And I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you in their generations
From the beginning God’s way of promising His chosen children was by making a covenant with them. God repeated nine times that His covenant was with Abraham. Not only did God make a covenant with Abraham but also with his descendants for generations to come. Simply put a covenant is a binding agreement between two people to agree on something they believe in common. A covenant can also be between God and an individual person or can be in a group setting. When we look at God’s covenant with Abraham, it was applied to an entire nation even though the nation was not yet born.
If God says to me that the covenant He is going to make with me will be a blessing to a thousand generations into the future, it would be very hard for me to imagine and understand. At that point all I will say is that I believe what God had said to me because I believe God by faith and that He always speaks truth because He is Truth.
Some six thousand years later after Abraham, the covenant that God made with Abraham still is valid. God’s blessings still flow even to this day to the Jewish people and also to us because we are Abraham’s spiritual children. You see the covenant that God made with Abraham is called the Abrahamic covenant. It is a blessing of protection and prosperity of Abraham’s descendants and it is an unconditional covenant. Then we come to the Mosaic covenant which is a conditional covenant to uphold the laws that was written by God and given to Moses and the Israelites. The Davidic covenant is another unconditional covenant given by God that the throne of David will be established forever. None of the above covenants guarantee our eternity to be with the Lord Jesus Christ.
The last covenant established by God is the New Covenant. This is an unconditional covenant ordained by God through Lord Jesus Christ. Anyone who comes to Jesus with a repented heart and believes in his heart that Jesus died for him to cleanse his sins by His precious blood and rose on the third day and is seated by the Father’s right hand side ever interceding for us. The New Covenant gives every person who believes in Christ Jesus the assurance of a new life called the born again life not only on this earth but in heaven for eternity. Not only he is a new creation but now has access to God the Father’s throne room of grace and a guaranteed inheritance that is in heaven.
May Christ Jesus our Lord open our hearts and minds and speak to us through His Spirit. In Jesus precious name. Amen.
Maranatha!
