Genesis 17:8
Also I give to you and your descendants after you the land in which you are a stranger, all the land of Canaan, as an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.”
Talk about the promises of God. Not a single promise of God ever fails. But surely it will come to pass. God’s promise is not just a saying like we say. Many times we promise something to God or even people around us but never follow up fulfilling it. In Genesis chapter 17 verse 8, we see that God promised Abraham that all the land of Canaan in which Abraham was living as a stranger will be possessed by the descendants of Abraham. Even though Abraham had another son Ishmael through Hagar, the covenant of God was not with him. There’s a lot of debate and arguments about this. The truth is that God made it very clear when he said in Genesis 17:21: “But My covenant I will establish with Isaac, whom Sarah shall bear to you at this set time next year.”
If we weigh God’s Word against man’s word, God’s Word wins because only God’s Word is the truth. Not only did God promise Abraham that he will possess all the land of Canaan but that land will remain as an everlasting possession for his descendants where God Himself will be their God. Today when we see the land of Canaan that is the present day Israel and some more, it is filled with people who are not yet drawn into God presence. For the time being their eyes are covered with a veil and are unable to see the truth, that is Lord Jesus Christ. But there is a time coming soon where the Jewish people will realize who the true Messiah is and will worship Him with an everlasting joy. For our Lord Jesus Christ will be the joy of their salvation.
Even though the Jewish people are fighting for their promised land, it won’t end until the promised Messiah returns to consume the enemies of Israel with His breath. Then the promise made by God to Abraham will be fulfilled. Did you know God made a promise to us too. For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life. A life that only God can give not as the world gives. As a matter of fact the world does not give life but takes away life.
May Christ Jesus our Lord open our hearts and minds and speak to us through His Spirit. In Jesus precious name. Amen.
Maranatha!
