Genesis 17:10
This is My covenant which you shall keep, between Me and you and your descendants after you: Every male child among you shall be circumcised;
In Genesis chapter 17 verse 10, God is explaining to Abraham that His covenant is not only between God and Abraham but every descendant after him. What visual proof did God ask Abraham and his descendants to show? God said that every male child must be circumcised. Now let us examine what circumcision means. It means to cut and remove the tip of the outer skin of a man’s sex organ. In other words it is called the foreskin.
Scientifically speaking there are two ways that a man’s body secretes or releases waste products. One is via the rectum and out through the anal canal where solid waste is released and then the liquids in the form of urine are released through urethral opening of the man’s organ called penis. The foreskin is an extra skin that protects the sensitive head of the penis but also from hygienic point of view if not properly cared for can cause bacterial infections. That is the reason doctors prefer to remove the foreskin of a male child due to hygienic reasons.
God commanded Abraham that starting with Abraham and his male descendants must be circumcised. In the spiritual sense unless the foreskin is circumcised thereby removing all the filthiness and stench, God’s covenant will not be with Abraham’s descendants. Verse 11 God says, “and you shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskins, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between Me and you.” When we read the parallel version in the New Testament, we see that man experiences something similar to the foreskin problem. You see God in the Old Testament used the most important organ of a man. Without this organ man cannot become fruitful and multiply physically. God’s plan for the mankind wouldn’t come to fruition. Our Lord Jesus Christ very carefully planned how He would bring the human civilization into existence. Should we not glorify Him continuously for His (beyond our comprehension) wisdom? Yes. We should glorify Him.
May our Lord Jesus Christ open our hearts and minds and speak to us through His Spirit. In Jesus precious name. Amen.
Maranatha!
