God’s Word of the Day April 07 2023 Why is it called Good Friday?

Good Friday

Why is it called Good Friday?

2000 years ago God the Father sent His Son Lord Jesus Christ into this world to save us from our sins. In the beginning God made the Heavens and the Earth. He made man out of dust and breathed life into him. He called the man Adam. And out of the man’s rib God formed the woman and called her Eve. Because of man’s disobedience to God’s Word, original sin was born due to man’s arrogance and disrespect towards God’s values.

God blessed (Genesis 1:28) Adam and Eve before the fall of man to become fruitful and multiply. Once a gift is given by God to the mankind He never takes it back. Adam was created in the image of God. God also embedded certain qualities that a man would possess. Similarly God embedded certain qualities when He created Eve. As per God’s design Eve’s desire would be for her husband. So, Eve was created to meet Adam’s needs. After their fall God blessed them with two sons Cain and Abel. Sin is a nature that is inherited naturally by every living human being. It corrupted the hearts of Adam and Eve and was passed on to the next generation. Thus from generation to generation the sin nature is inherited by all of us.

Within the Old Covenant the only way to overcome sin was by offering a reasonable sacrifice once a year. A male animal without any defect would be offered every year to atone the sins of Israelites. For thousands of years even with this type of offerings people could not stop from sinning. So, God the Father decided to send His only Son into this world to save us. Lord Jesus was the perfect lamb without any blemish. He was born of a virgin and without sinless. He lead a perfect sinless life on this earth. The purpose for which He came was accomplished when the sinners of this world decided to crucify Him on a Roman Cross.

From the start to finish Jesus Christ fulfilled the promises and prophecies of God, His Father. He always obeyed His Father and did exactly what His Father willed. Finally the day called the Good Friday approached and our Lord Jesus after going through rigorous suffering was nailed to the Roman cross. It is called Good Friday because our Lord gave up His Heavenly throne and authority and went through the most difficult time in the history of this creation. He was beat up, whipped, spit, pierced, kicked, dragged, pushed and accused. He carried the cross to Golgotha and His Hands and Feet were nailed to the cross and suffered excruciating pain and loneliness on the cross with no help from His Father. The suffering Messiah suffered so much, and emptied Himself on the cross of Calvary, and gave up His last breath. At that point the Father’s wrath that was reserved for sinners like us was poured out upon our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. One Man who is just in every possible way died for the unjustly in every possible way. Only the blood of Jesus would pave us the way to the Father. The blood that was poured out of Emmanuel’s body was enough to wash the sins of the entire humanity and is still valid today and beyond. The sin that began with Adam ended on the day when the Lord Jesus Christ the Anointed One said, “It is Finished”.

Praise and Glory be to the God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ for sending His Son to die a gruesome death on the cross for our sake. May we offer our thanksgiving and worship the King of kings and the Lord of lords! Who is soon to return. Jesus we give You glory and honor. Amen.

Maranatha!
