John 20:29 Seeing and Believing

Jesus said to him, “Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

After the resurrection, Christ appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time. Those who saw Jesus Christ after His resurrection are the blessed people. But what about those who never saw Jesus? In the above verse Jesus’ said: “Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” Christianity is entirely based on believing on the Lord Jesus Christ. Acts 16:31 says: So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.” That is the reason a Christian is also called as a believer.

In order for someone to believe in the Lord, they have to have faith. Now what is faith? Faith is the reality of what we hope for, the proof of what we don’t see. It is an assurance of what we hope for. How does we inherit faith? Faith is not obtained by studying philosophy or by practicing yoga or by any other method. Faith is given to us on the day we believe in Lord Jesus Christ for our deliverance from the bondage of sin and slavery. When a person receives Jesus Christ as their personal savior, salvation is given to the person as a free gift from God through His Son Jesus Christ. Hebrews 12:2 says: Jesus is the author and the finisher of our faith. So, any person who receives Jesus Christ also receives faith but that is not the end of it. Jesus also perfects our faith. Philippians 1:6 says: “He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;”

That is the reason Jesus said that Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed. Here not seen means not seeing Jesus in person. In this world today there are many who want to believe Jesus if only He can show up wherever the people want Him to be or perform a mind blowing miracle. Even as Jesus was being crucified, people mocked Him saying if He is Christ, let Him come down from the cross or to name who struck the blindfolded Jesus. Through faith we find out that Jesus is real. He is the God who created the heavens and the earth. When I mean earth, that is everything above the earth, on the earth and under the earth.

Let us all meditate on the scriptures with faith and be the ones to experience the presence of the Lord in our lives even though we have not see the Christ in person yet. In Jesus precious name. Amen.

Maranatha!
