God’s Word of the Day April 18 2023

Acts 17:11

These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.

After Apostle Paul and Silas had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where there was a synagogue of the Jews. Here St. Paul for three Sabbaths reasoned with them from the Scriptures, explaining and demonstrating that the Christ had to suffer and rise again from the dead, and saying, “This Jesus whom I preach to you is the Christ.” And some of them were persuaded; and a great multitude of the devout Greeks, and not a few of the leading women, joined Paul and Silas.

You see the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ is very simple enough to understand but due to man’s depravity men do not seek the Lord nor try to understand Him. Everything for reasoning is mentioned in the scriptures. Whatever the religious affiliation of a man is or wherever they come from or their language does not matter when it comes to understanding the Word of God. The Jews that St. Paul reasoned with were well versed with the book of law, The Torah. But when Paul preached Christ, the scripture says that some of the Jews and a great multitude of gentiles joined Paul and Silas. After that the two men had been driven out of the city of Thessalonica by an angry mob for spreading the gospel there. From there they reached to a place called Berea. The biblical meaning of Berea is ‘well watered’. The meaning appropriately makes sense as to the nature of the people living in that town.

One of the things that is mentioned in Acts chapter 17 vs 11, about the Bereans is that they were fair minded than the people at Thessalonica. Meaning they were more receptive to hear the Word of God. Many times we do not allow God to accomplish His purpose for our life. We are too rational in our thinking thereby shutting God out of our lives. The Bereans were fair minded people. What is being fair minded? It means to be impartial in our thinking ability. If we read the Word of God with a negative attitude then God is unable to work within us. We have to allow our mind with a perception that God wants His will to be fulfilled in our lives. The people at Berea received the Word with all readiness. To be ready means, the time it takes to warm up our minds is already accomplished. How do we prepare our minds to get ready? We prepare our minds first by submitting ourselves to the authority of our Lord by committing our life to Jesus by prayer and supplication. Then the Word of God that we receive will enable our minds to understand its purpose super naturally. The Spirit will guide us in searching the scriptures and confirming the power that is in Word of God.

Let us all be like the Bereans committed to the Word of God with all readiness. Because we do not know at what time does the Lord may appear. Let us be thankful to our Lord Jesus Christ for showing us the way to the Father. Until next time. In Jesus name. Amen.

Maranatha!
