Psalm 34:1
His praise shall continually be in my mouth.
Yesterday we found out what it means to bless the Lord. Today we will find out the true purpose of praising the Lord. The term ‘Praise the Lord’ is used 48 times in the Old Testament and once in the New Testament. To praise means to exalt. It can also mean to worship. In this case it is God that we have to praise. Since the beginning of the creation men have learned to worship God, the creator. Psalm 34 is a Psalm of David when he pretended madness before Abimelech, who drove him away, and he departed..
David was triumphant and relieved at God’s rescue when he was held by the Philistines (1 Samuel 21:10-22:1). David praises God for deliverance from a life-threatening situation–perhaps his encounter with King Achish of Gath, later remembered as Abimelech. This is just one instance of the many trials that David faced. Perhaps the reader reading this blog might not have experienced life threatening situations like King David did, but does that mean we don’t have to bless the Lord at all times and praise God continually? The answer is NO. Every born again believer has to bless the Lord at all times and His praise shall continually be in our mouth.
God has given every person 24 hours a day. Within that period we have decided to allocate 8-10 hours for work. An hour or two to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner. Another 8-10 hours for rest etcetera. So, where is the time allocated to God? Especially when it comes to praising God, man does not find time. He has the time to achieve everything under the sun but, he cannot find time to fit God into his tight schedule.
How does a person praise God? Strictly speaking about the born again believer, a person has to realize that whatever he posses is given to him by God. It is simply a blessing of God. Whether it is a job, or money, or housing, clothing, spouse and children, everything has been given to us by God. Even the food and water that we eat and drink and the air that we breath and the fellowship of the believers is all a God given gift to us. God wants us to prosper in many ways. He wants us to be fruitful in the avenues that is according to His will and purpose.
Having received all His benefits, how can we not worship Him, praise Him continually at all times? Every Christian’s assignment is to paise the Lord at all times. We need to learn to sing Hallelujah to our Lord. Christ is the head of our body. Without the head the body cannot work or live. The cow after grazing on the feed, will regurgitate, meaning after eating will bring the food back into the mouth and chews on it continuously. So, do the Christian who meditates on the Word of God has to bring it back into our mouth and speak out loud if possible the promises of His Word. Even while sleeping one need to have the thoughts of Christ and His grace, love, mercy and His power should always be on our lips. Otherwise a Christian is as good as an unbeliever. There’s no difference between them and us. His praise continually should abide in our mouth. A Christian is not a person tossed back and forth by the winds of this world.
May our Lord allow us to worship Him and thank Him. Until next time. In Jesus precious name. Amen.
