Genesis 32:28

And He said, “Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for you have struggled with God and with men, and have prevailed.”

Israel is 75 years old today. Here their spiritual, religious and political identity was shaped. Here they first attained to statehood, created cultural values of national and universal significance and gave to the world the eternal Book of Books. After being forcibly exiled from their land, the people kept faith with it throughout their Dispersion and never ceased to pray and hope for their return to it and for the restoration in it of their political freedom.

Even though Israel was exiled several times due to their disobedience towards God, because of God’s mercy, He called them back to the promised land. Although Israel was founded on May 14, 1948, its diamond jubilee celebration was held based on the Hebrew calendar, on April 26, 2023, which was yesterday. 

In Genesis 35 vs 11 – 12 says: Also God said to him: “I am God Almighty. Be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall proceed from you, and kings shall come from your body. The land which I gave Abraham and Isaac I give to you; and to your descendants after you I give this land.” 

This is the promise from God the maker of heaven and the earth. He is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob (Israel). The whole earth and everything in it belongs to Him and Him alone. No one can challenge Him. People can try to wage a war against Israel but they cannot wage a war against the God of Israel. He will protect the land of Israel and His people no matter what. The name of Israel was initially called Jacob. Through Jacob and through Judah, our Lord God chose the lineage of His Son Jesus Christ the Messiah. Isaiah prophesied in chapter 9 verse 6:

For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

May we all pray for the peace of Jerusalem as the Word of God commands every born again Christian believer and bless the land on its 75th birthday. Since the beginning Israel not only struggled with God but also with the people, even today. It is surrounded by the enemies of God. The end result is that they will prevail. Because Christ is coming back soon and will set His feet upon the Mount of Olives. Those who do not know Him will be put to eternal shame. It is not too late to accept Jesus Christ as your personal savior.
