Idolatry Is Foolishness Isaiah 44:9-10

⁹ Those who make an image, all of them are useless,
And their precious things shall not profit;
They are their own witnesses;
They neither see nor know, that they may be ashamed.
¹⁰ Who would form a god or mold an image
That profits him nothing?

The above two passages from the book of Isaiah chapter forty four verses nine and ten describe that the makers of an image or an idol are useless. The people who make idols are human beings just like anyone else. They have no knowledge of who God is. They have acquired skills from their ancestors to make these idols. It is so easy to idolize something or someone. Tom Hanks in the movie ‘Cast Away’ finds a soccer ball and begins to talk to that ball and develops a friendship with it. Similarly, people who are far away from God find another way to engage themselves. It could be a tree, or an animal or something similar. In Matthew chapter 15 verse 14, Jesus said, blind led by blind leads them into a ditch. The person who does not know God is like a blind man. Don’t know where to go but decides to lead others anyway and since the people surrounding him are also blind, both of them will fall into a ditch.

Every time an idol is mentioned, the thinking goes that it is an object. Not so. An idol does not necessarily have to be carved out of wood or molded out of mud or metal. Many people in today’s world does not necessarily worship man made idols, but the things of the world they love the most. Some are lovers of money, they think that the more money they have, the more merrier they are. Some lust after women and some lust after fame and some worship movie stars, sports stars and so on and still some of them worship pride. All of the aforementioned areas men have learned to idolize. The person who idolizes is pretty much ritualistic in nature. They think that because their family members worship, obviously there is truth to it. Or they look at rich people lifestyles and they want to imitate them. But little do they know that their ancestors had no idea who they were worshipping. And the rich don’t have a clue for they are so immersed in the lavishness of luxury that they have no time for God, the creator of heavens and the earth. For generations these people have been exchanging the glory of immortal God for the images of mortal men, animals, birds and reptiles. Nothing has changed today. Many millions of them worship worthless idols and worship the luxury lifestyles of rich and famous men in the present world and will not listen to anyone telling them the truth. Because not only are they blind but deaf too. Jesus Christ came into the world to save the lost.

Jesus said, “let not your heart be troubled you believe in God, believe also in Me.” A person has to believe in Lord Jesus Christ, that He is the way, the truth and the life and no man can come to the Father except through Him. More next time.
