God’s Word of the Day May 16 2023 If then you were raised with Christ,

Colossians 3:1

If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God.

Apostle Paul clearly stated how a Christian should lead his life. First of all the Bible describes in Genesis that in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The one that is higher than the earth is the heaven. Jesus said in:

John 6 verse 50: I am the living bread that came down out of heaven

And again in:

John 3 verse 13: No one has ascended into heaven, but He who descended from heaven: the Son of Man.

Why heaven is so important to a Christian? Because it is the dwelling place of God. Many times people like to travel to a beautiful place on earth, where they can find peace, happiness to calm their minds from a busy and stressful life. Heaven is much more than that. Heaven is where God, His holy angels, and His believing children dwell. Heaven is the place of the everlasting blessedness of the righteous; the abode of departed souls whose names are written in The Lamb’s Book of Life.

2 Corinthians 5 verse 17 says: Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

Let us examine the old things first. Some of the examples of old things are: Galatians 5 vs 19-21: Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

1 Corinthians 6 vs 9-10: Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.

The old things are related to the flesh also called carnality which is the desire of the flesh. Unless one puts to death the desires of the flesh, cannot inherit the things of heaven. Once a person is set free from the sins they have committed they become born again Christians. A Christian who calls themselves a Christian but does not know what it means to be a born again believer is not a Christian. The Catholics or other cults do not understand what it means to be a born again Christian.

Becoming a born again Christian believer changes life’s perspective. Paul is emphasizing that a believer should seek things which are above. Where Christ is there our heart should be. Man does not need to do anything bad to sin because he inherits sin by birth. But the free gift of God is eternal life. It is not only eternal in nature but also pure in nature. May we give thanks to God the Father through Jesus Christ for enabling us to understand what it means to seek the things which are above.

In Jesus name. Amen.

Maranatha!
