Luke 24:45

⁴⁵ And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures.

Many people of this world have no idea who Christ Jesus is. And many so called Christians are unable to testify about Christ when asked about Him. This is because they do not have the intimacy with Christ. Intimacy is something that one develops over time. Lasting friendships begin very early in life. They last a lifetime because they have kept in touch with each other even when they grew older. In a marriage, intimacy plays a very important role between husband and wife. The stronger the bond is the stronger the marriage is. But if one of them ignores the other, as the time goes by the marriage begins to fall apart. That’s the reason so many marriages end up in divorces.

This is true spiritually also. The far we live away from God, the less we understand about God. God wants us to spend time with Him. He wants to reveal many things to us but we limit ourselves by focusing on other things.

James 4 verse 8 says:

⁸ Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. 

The disciples followed Christ for over three years. During these three plus years they witnessed Christ perform many miracles, healings, casting demons out and so on. The disciples also learned many things from Jesus for He was their Rabbi. Jesus shared intimate details about Himself with His disciples. Jesus began to show to His disciples what was going to happen to Him soon.

Matthew 16 vs 21

²¹ From that time Jesus began to show to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day.

When Jesus appeared to His disciples after He was raised from the dead, they were all terrified and frightened and supposed they had seen a spirit. The reason they were all terrified and frightened was due to the fact they were all focused on Christ’s death and not on the resurrection. They completely forgot what Jesus told them when He was with them before the crucifixion. Many times in our lives we tend to get distracted with other things. In the case of disciples Jesus opened their understanding so that they would comprehend the scriptures of what was written about Him.

Until we allow Jesus to open our understanding about Him, we will be at a loss to grasp of who Jesus is. After Jesus opened His disciples understanding, Lord Jesus ascended to heaven. The scripture says in:

Luke 24 vs 52 and 53

And they worshiped Him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, ⁵³ and were continually in the temple praising and blessing God. Amen.

When our Lord Jesus Christ opens our understanding, then only we will be able to worship Him. The scripture goes on to say that the disciples were continually in the temple praising and blessing God. It is a joy and a privilege to worship our God through His Son Christ Jesus.

May we give thanks to God the Father through Jesus Christ for enabling us to understand what it means to open our understanding by our Lord Jesus Christ.
