1 Samuel 12:24

²⁴ Only fear the Lord, and serve Him in truth with all your heart; for consider what great things He has done for you.

The Word of God is very clear. It all begins in the Old Testament. Genesis chapter six verse five says this:

Genesis 6 verse 5:

⁵ Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

From the beginning man’s intentions were based on the feelings of his heart. After the fall of man, the first family’s first born Cain kills Abel his younger brother out of jealousy. Out of the wickedness of man’s heart are born evil thoughts. This is mentioned in the Book of Jeremiah chapter seventeen verse nine.

Jeremiah 17 verse 9:

⁹ “The heart is deceitful above all things,
And desperately wicked;
Who can know it?

The wickedness of heart has prevailed in much of the Old Testament and as well as in the New Testament periods. Even today the condition of the heart is the biggest issue of all times and it defines a persons character. One of the most famous passage in the Judaism is from Deuteronomy chapter six verse five.

Deuteronomy 6 verse 5:

⁵ You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, ……

This verse is called the ‘Shema’ preceded by verse four saying, “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one!” The Shema prayer is one of the most famous prayers in the Bible. It was a daily prayer for ancient Israelites and is still recited by Jewish people today. God always wants us to worship Him with all our heart. But because of man’s choice that began at the Garden of Eden his heart turned corrupt. This is mentioned clearly in Romans chapter five verse twelve.

Romans 5 verse 12:

¹² Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned

God decided that the only way to fix the corrupted heart is to replace it with a new nature. The old nature always had a direct connection to the flesh. The New nature has a supernatural connection to the heart that is from the God above.

Jeremiah 31 verse 33 the Lord says:

³³ But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.

Those who have received the free gift of salvation from Lord Jesus Christ have received the truth of God. Only the true believers are able to serve the God Almighty in truth with all their heart. No longer the believers have to struggle with their old nature. The old nature has been replaced with the new nature of God written on our hearts and that is the reason we are able to fear the Lord and serve Him in truth.

May we all give thanks to God the Father through Jesus Christ for setting us free and giving us the eternal life.
