John 8:49

⁴⁹ Jesus answered, “I do not have a demon; but I honor My Father, and you dishonor Me.

Today we will see what it means to be possessed by a demon. The word translated “demon” comes from the Greek word daimon, or the diminutive form daimonion. The root meaning of the Greek word daimon is “knowing” or “intelligence.” This may have the idea that their intelligence is above humans. The demons are innumerable. Only God knows their number.

We read an incident from the Gospel of Mark chapter five verses eight and nine.

Mark 5:8-9

⁸ For He said to him, “Come out of the man, unclean spirit!” ⁹ Then He asked him, “What is your name?” And he answered, saying, “My name is Legion; for we are many.” 

When Jesus Christ commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man and then when Christ asked the demon’s name, the demon replied that his name was Legion for they were many. Now it is pretty hard even for some Christian believers to understand that there are demons that exist in this world. Many mainstream Churches in today’s world do not want to talk about sin and its repercussions. Neither do they want to talk about the devil and his followers. These Churches allow their members to feel at home. They schedule the Church worship service as a feel good Church to visit.

Many of the large mega Churches collect millions of dollars through the Church offerings and allow themselves to live a lavish lifestyle. Before sending out the disciples into the world, the very first thing that Christ did was to give them power to cast out demons.

Matthew 10 verse 1

10 And when He had called His twelve disciples to Him, He gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease. 

Unclean spirits are demons. Their leader is the Devil or the Satan. The word translated Devil is the Greek diabolos, which means “slanderer.” It is always used in the singular when referring to the Devil. The Devil in the serpent form was the one that deceived Eve in the Garden of Eden.

John 8:44

⁴⁴ You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. 

The Jews countered our Lord by saying that He had a demon. Because that is what Jesus said to them earlier that they were the children of the devil as mentioned in the above verse.

John 8:48

⁴⁸ Then the Jews answered and said to Him, “Do we not say rightly that You are a Samaritan and have a demon?”

The world we are living in, when a Bible Believer speaks the truth, immediately the non-believer strikes back at him insulting the Word of God. The people of this world think that they know better then God Himself. Little do they know that Christ is preeminent before all things.

Colossians 1 verse 16 – 18 says this:

¹⁶ For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. ¹⁷ And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. ¹⁸ And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.

That means every person whether dead or alive were created by Christ. It does not hurt God if one does not believe in Him or not. What matters is the person who does not believe in Christ is going to hell along with the demons and their leader the Devil. So, today if you have heard the truth, let not your heart be troubled. Believe in Jesus Christ and receive the free gift of salvation and your past life God will not remember no more because your sins have been washed away by the blood of Jesus.

No atheism or other man made gods can protect anyone from the impending wrath that is coming on the entire world. You are warned.
