God’s Word of the Day July 13 2023 For the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.

Matthew 12:8

For the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.

In today’s world there are several groups of people who believe in the day of Sabbath. Let’s briefly examine the day of Sabbath. The origin of the word Sabbath comes from the Book of Exodus 16 verse 23.

Exodus 16:23

Then he said to them, “This is what the Lord has said: ‘Tomorrow is a Sabbath rest, a holy Sabbath to the Lord.

The story behind the word Sabbath is that God commanded Moses that is written in the book of Exodus chapter sixteen to use the bread that came from heaven also called the ‘Manna’. Because the children of Israel complained about missing the food when they were living under slavery in Egypt.

Exodus 16:3

And the children of Israel said to them, “Oh, that we had died by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pots of meat and when we ate bread to the full! For you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger.”

The Israelites murmured and complained to Moses longing for their favorite food(s). So, the Lord God sent them Manna from heaven and since it was the end of the sixth day and as they were entering into the day of Sabbath, according to God’s law man needed to obey the Sabbath and rest instead of gathering food for that day.

Sabbath means to rest or to desist from exertion. When we examine another passage from the Book of Genesis 2:2: We see that God Himself rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done.

Genesis 2:2

And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done.

Christians on the other hand are not under the law but are under the grace of Jesus Christ. When a believer truly accepts Jesus Christ as their personal savior, they are no longer under the law but are under grace.

Romans 6:14

14 For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace

Christ came into this world to fulfil the law and the prophets. That means the law was fulfilled in Himself and from that point grace was offered as a free gift to the believers called the saving grace and to the rest of the world common grace has been given to all the people of this world. The day of rest or the Sabbath was fulfilled in Christ since it was the law. That is the reason every born again believer is in Christ irrespective of the day or the night throughout his life. Therefore it is no longer necessary to rest on a single day called the Sabbath day.

The Jews and the Seventh Day Adventist cultists observe the Saturday as the Sabbath day. The rest of the days, they are free to do whatever they like. The SDA’s have a weird way of explaining why it is important for them. As for as the Jewish people, they still have no knowledge of who Christ or the Messiah is. The day they will find out, their hearts will be flooded with tears that no person on earth ever so far has experienced.

Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved, you and your household.

In Jesus precious name! Amen.

Maranatha!
