Psalm 132:13-14
13 For the Lord has chosen Zion;
He has desired it for His dwelling place:
14 “This is My resting place forever;
Here I will dwell, for I have desired it.
From ancient times until the present, Jerusalem has been one of the most sought after cities in the world.
Zion means the hill of Jerusalem on which the City of David was built. It continues to be so. Today, perhaps more than any other time in history, people, groups, and nations dispute whom Jerusalem should belong to. It seems that internationally speaking, all eyes are on Jerusalem.
The most decisive statements regarding the importance of Jerusalem are found in the Bible, which states that Jerusalem is the city of God and the city of the Great King. The entire chapter of Psalm 48 describes the city of Jerusalem and the glory of God in Zion.
Zechariah 3:2 says:
“the Lord has chosen Jerusalem.”
He has chosen to dwell on Mount Zion forever, according to Psalms 68:16 and 132:13–14. It is His resting place.
Because He claims this mountain as His own, God is “very jealous for Jerusalem.” He tells us in:
Zechariah 1:14, 16
“I will return to Jerusalem with mercy, and there My house will be rebuilt.”
Though men of ancient days have placed their own nations at the center of world maps, Ezekiel 5:5 and 38:12 says Jerusalem is the center of the nations and the earth. No other city can claim this Divine placement in the eyes of God.
It seems “natural” that since God will reign from Jerusalem, the enemy will do whatever he can to hold on to whatever power he has and move against God’s plans for salvation.
But naturally speaking, Jerusalem has nothing really to recommend itself. It has no resources of its own, and it’s 27 miles from the coast, not an ideal location for a nation’s capital.
Nevertheless, it stands tall in its calling to be a light to the nations as a shining city on a hill. So, let us pray for the peace of Jerusalem. This is a mandate ordained by God for every born again believer in Christ.
Psalm 122:6
6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem:
“May they prosper who love you.
Have you received the free gift of salvation through Christ Jesus? It is not too late. The Bible in Acts 16 verse 31 says this:
Acts 16:31
31 So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.”
Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved, you and your household.
In Jesus precious name! Amen.
Maranatha!
