Psalm 132:13-14
13 For the Lord has chosen Zion;
He has desired it for His dwelling place:
14 “This is My resting place forever;
Here I will dwell, for I have desired it.
The fact that Melchizedek, the priest of the Most High God, reigned from Salem is further evidence of the importance of Jerusalem in God’s plan for humanity.
Although the city was called Salem in Melchizedek’s time, by the time of Joshua, it was called Jerusalem. In fact, the name “Yerushalem” is first mentioned in the Bible in Joshua 10:1.
Joshua 10:1
10 Now it came to pass when Adoni-Zedek king of Jerusalem ………
At this time, Joshua fought a battle with the king of the city, who was called Adonai-Zedek (Lord of righteousness), and with his coalition of kings.
On that day, God performed an amazing miracle: the sun and the moon stood still until Israel totally defeated her enemies.
While Joshua captured the city, he did not establish a community in it, and its name eventually reverted back to Salem.
Isaiah 28:16
16 Therefore thus says the Lord God:
“Behold, I lay in Zion a stone for a foundation,
A tried stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation;
Whoever believes will not act hastily.
Although Jerusalem essentially remained in the hands of the Jebusites for 440 years after the Jewish people entered the Land of Israel, King David made it the capital more than 3,000 years ago. The city has ever since played a central role in Jewish people existence.
Let us pray for the peace of Jerusalem. This is a mandate ordained by God for every born again believer in Christ.
Psalm 122:6
6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem:
“May they prosper who love you.
Have you received the free gift of salvation through Christ Jesus? It is not too late. The Bible in Acts 16 verse 31 says this:
Acts 16:31
31 So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.”
Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved, you and your household.
In Jesus precious name! Amen.
Maranatha!
