Genesis 32:28
28 And He said, “Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for you have struggled with God and with men, and have prevailed.”
When we read the genealogies written in the Bible, we see that some of the cities were named after them. In those days since the land was vast and there were few people to work, people identified the places with the names of their leaders. For example we see that the grandson of Noah was Canaan. A city was named after Canaan and the generations that came after him were called the Canaanites.
The names of the cities were given by men living at that time. But in the case of the nation of Israel, it was God that chose land and gave it to His people, the Jewish people. God spoke to Moses in Exodus 3:15.
Exodus 3:15
15 Moreover God said to Moses, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel: ‘The Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you.
Our God is the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Israel. Over 200 times in the Bible, God calls Himself as the God of Israel. This should remind someone who is skeptically trying to understand the God of the Universe. God loves the land which is also called the promised land.
The birthplace of the Jewish people is the Land of Israel (Eretz Yisrael). There, a significant part of the nation’s long history was enacted, of which the first thousand years are recorded in the Bible; there, its cultural, religious, and national identity was formed; and there, its physical presence has been maintained through the centuries, even after the majority was forced into exile. During the many years of dispersion, the Jewish people never severed nor forgot its bond with the Land. With the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948, Jewish independence, lost 2,000 years earlier, was renewed.
The name which was forgotten until 1948, the State of Israel was formed. Jeremiah chapter twenty nine and verse fourteen the Lord said this:
Jeremiah 29:14
14 I will be found by you, says the Lord, and I will bring you back from your captivity; I will gather you from all the nations and from all the places where I have driven you, says the Lord, and I will bring you to the place from which I cause you to be carried away captive.
Currently it seems like there is no hope for the people of Israel because they are continuously attacked from all sides by it’s enemies. But the Word of God declares that:
Philippians 1:6
6 being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;
It is the Lord who began a good work in the nation of Israel. He is surely going to complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.
Let us not forget to pray for the peace of Jerusalem.
Psalm 122:6
6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem:
“May they prosper who love you.
Have you received the free gift of salvation through Christ Jesus? It is not too late. The Bible in Acts 16 verse 31 says this:
Acts 16:31
31 So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.”
Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved, you and your household.
In Jesus precious name! Amen.
Maranatha!
