Philippians 1:9

⁹ And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment,

As we continue our study about discernment, we will examine how Eve’s sin has impacted the entire humanity. The core principle of the Bible is based on one word. OBEDIENCE. The word obedience means to obey the law of an authority or an authoritative figure even when it is inconvenient to us.

What happened in the Garden of Eden was lack of reverence towards the loving and caring God by Adam and Eve. When God made Adam, He gave Adam the ability to grasp and understand the power of God, the love of God, the grace of God and the mercy of God. That’s the reason it is said that Adam was made in the image of God.

Genesis 1:27

²⁷ So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

An image is a visual representation of someone or something. Adam represented God in a certain way and so did Eve. Eve’s sin impacts every human being to this day and beyond. She represents of what we do commonly. That is being ignorant of who we are. Little do we realize that we are the created beings by God. Especially those who call themselves to be born again Christians do not realize that they belong to God. They will continue to live and make decisions based upon their knowledge. Just like Eve conversed with the serpent, the devil, these people think that they have every right to stop and talk to people who are forbidden by God.

The Bible is filled with stories of men and women who were told by God not to mingle with foreign women and men. The end result of this mix up was ultimately the kingdoms were destroyed by God. Look at Sodom and Gomorrah. God destroyed these cities with fire and brimstone as they did not fear God and lived a life pleasing themselves. This is where the discernment comes to play. Any person who does not fear God cannot discern using his fleshly knowledge. God is from above and man is from below. Adam was formed out of dust and so did Eve. They were earthly people and so are we.

As human beings we cannot discern between right and wrong or between left and right. This is why in the world today what was right has become wrong. And what was left has now become right. Man has become a woman and a woman has turned into a man. As we discern through our flesh everything seems to be correct. Because of this wars and rumors of wars are at hand. Wars in the homes, and wars in the nations. Peace has been shattered by endless discussions about sexuality, about political affiliations, demoralizing behaviors and so on.

Eve’s sin lives in everyone of us. It does not distinguish between a Christian believer and an unbeliever. The only difference is that a Christian believer is filled with the Holy Spirit to guide that person spiritually. Since the believer receives the spiritual discernment from God, he is able to see the truth.

John 3:16

¹⁶ For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

God loves every one of us. There are no exceptions. But do you love God? Our eternity depends upon whether we love God or not. If anyone does not love His Son Lord Jesus Christ, then he or she will not inherit the kingdom of God.
