Matthew 27:59-60

⁵⁹ When Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, ⁶⁰ and laid it in his new tomb …..

After the Lord’s death on the cross, Joseph of Arimathea wrapped His body and placed it in a new tomb. Biblically speaking when a believer dies, it is common to say that the person is sleeping. Because whoever sleeps will rise up from the sleep. We see this mentioned in the scriptures at several places. For example Jesus said in:

Matthew 9:24

²⁴ He said to them, “Make room, for the girl is not dead, but sleeping.”

Those who sleep in Jesus Christ are not dead but sleeping. But our Lord Jesus Christ died on the cross. The scriptures does not say that He slept or or rested on that day but died. He died because He was separated from God, His Father. Those who die without Jesus Christ are dead and are eternally separated from God. But those who sleep in Christ are going to be with Christ for eternity.

Christ died because the only way to destroy sin is by death. Therefore Christ conquered the death by rising from the dead on the third day.

What a mighty God is our Lord Jesus Christ! Praise Him!
