Deuteronomy 4:7
7 “For what great nation is there that has God so near to it, as the Lord our God is to us, for whatever reason we may call upon Him?
Moses was speaking to the congregation of Israelites and commanding them to be obedient to the laws of God. After wandering through the wilderness for forty years and after crossing the Red Sea and after defeating many kings on the way the Israelites came to a place called the Baal of Peor beyond the Jordan in Moab. Up until that point the Israelites witnessed great miracles.
There the Moabite women who worshipped the pagan idols of fertility found the Hebrew men attractive and seduced them to have sexual relations with them. The Hebrew men not only had sex with the pagan women but also worshipped the pagan idols and ate what was offered to the pagan gods. God’s anger was kindled and about 24,000 Hebrew men were killed because of participating in sexual sin and fornication.
Departing from the pure Word of God always leads to sinful living as was the case with 24,000 of God’s people’s worship at Baal Peor.
Those who call themselves born again Christians and commit sinful acts, God’s wrath will be upon them. God will not allow acts of betrayal by His children.
Deuteronomy 14:1
14 “You are the children of the Lord your God;
Even though the Israelites were God’s children numerous times in the scriptures, God did not hesitate to destroy the Israelites for being disobedient to His law and commandments. Lord Jesus Christ is so near to us, that He is dwelling within us, and as believers we cannot afford to sin and grieve Him.
Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
What a mighty God is our Lord Jesus Christ! Praise Him!
In Jesus precious name! Amen.
Maranatha!
