Joshua 1:6
6 Be strong and of good courage,
God commissioned Joshua to lead the Israelites who are also called as the children of Israel. Three times God declared to Joshua to BE STRONG (v 6, 7, 9). Throughout the NKJV Bible, ‘be strong’ is mentioned thirty times. The Christian believer is called to be strong in the Lord. What does it mean to be strong? Strong does not mean to become a body builder. It does not mean to run a marathon or to take part in any sport to keep the physical body fit. In fact to be strong in the Lord has nothing to do with our physical body but it has everything to do with our spirit. The reason God sends the Comforter (Holy Spirit) after a person is born again is to strengthen our inner spirit.
This can only happen if that person is persistent in his daily walk with the Lord. The more we fellowship with the Holy Spirit the more we become strong in the Lord. God Himself was encouraging Joshua to be strong in order to possess the promised land. To inherit God’s promise is not a piece of cake. Many Christians have a false notion that it is easy to live as Christian.
God promised Abraham that his descendants will inherit the land of Canaan and now it was being fulfilled through Joshua.
So, Joshua had to be strong and courageous because the land that he was going to possess was without their leader Moses. So, all the help he received was from above from God. God told Joshua to be strong and courageous to fight the battle in order to possess the promised land for God was going to be with him.
Many times we battle our problems without God’s help. That is being strong in flesh. Flesh is weak and therefore unable to give us victory in our day to day battles. Only when we lean and depend on God then only we can achieve the victory in our lives. For He is with us.
Joshua 1:9
Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
What a mighty God is our Lord Jesus Christ! Praise Him!
In Jesus precious name! Amen.
Maranatha!
