Matthew 4:4

⁴ But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ”

There’s a phrase commonly used, ‘You are what you Eat’. It is so true. If a person eats unhealthy food then sooner or later that person is going become ill. Every new year, many perhaps want to reset their lifestyles. Some want to eat right, and some want to exercise regularly and in some cases they want to become more disciplined in all aspects of their daily lives. They come up with new year’s resolutions. If one can keep up the new year’s resolutions that would be so good.

In the above passage Jesus said that man cannot just live by the bread alone. Jesus is saying that by doing earthly activities alone is not enough to live in this world. Man can eat the most healthiest food or he can keep his body in top shape by going to gym yet, in the end man’s life will still end one day. That day is not in man’s control. Famous people have lived on this earth and died. Kings and Princes ruled their kingdoms and died. Many brave men fought mighty battles and won but in the end they too died.

Many times man wonders about the life. In order to understand what life is, we have to approach God because He is the author and sustainer of every life. Many do not know who God is and they care less about the God the Creator.

In the above passage Jesus Christ was telling the devil about man’s need for God. Out of his own ignorance man thinks that he can get away from the truth about the existence of God and his total dependency on God.

Many leaders of the world avoid talking about God and His accomplishments. They would rather brag about their own accomplishments because they think they’re in control of everything that’s around them.

Jesus fasted for forty days and nights and was hungry before the tempter attempted to distract Him. Nevertheless Jesus showed the Satan that doing the will of the Father was more important than the desire (hungry) of the flesh.

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen.
