Matthew 16:26
26 For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?
Many times we see men and women going after the riches of this world. It is called the climbing of the corporate ladder. As a matter of fact this has been man’s goal since the beginning of this world. This is called prosperity. There’s nothing wrong with the idea of becoming prosperous. Every new year, one of the most famous phrases is wishing someone a prosperous new year.
We all want man’s goodness to prosper. In reality God wants everyone of His creation to prosper. Since man is God’s creation, God wants man to prosper in every aspect. During the course of time man forgot to thank God for his prosperity. Instead man has learned to rely on his own ability. Look at Elon Musk, a great entrepreneur raking billions of dollars. And then there are other mega rich people like Jeff Bezos and others earning billions of dollars. These men no doubt are contributing to the society and in turn contributing to the economy of the country they are in.
But did you know God has an economy of His own? In His economy no one has to sweat or work hard. Every person who receives Christ Jesus as their personal Savior, are rewarded with eternal life. In the kingdom of God, no one is poor and no one lives below the poverty line. Every one of them is rewarded with the best of the best.
In this world a person can either be rich or poor but one day God is going to call them and say this is it! He has numbered the days of every person living on this planet. Once that number is complete, he or she leaves this world. How a person spends his or her eternity depends on whether he or she is saved by the blood of Jesus Christ or not. The criteria of going to heaven is that one must be a born again believer in Jesus Christ. Otherwise there is no chance of ever being in the presence of God.
One can either be a king or a queen or the richest man in this world but if they have never known Christ, it is going to be a great tragedy for them. It will be the most regrettable day the moment they breath out their last breath and find out that they are in the darkest place to be tormented forever.
In the above passage Jesus Christ was saying that a man’s soul plays a critical role in his destination. If the man choses to serve God, then he is going to be with God. But if the man choses to gain the whole world without Christ, in the end he will regret it bitterly because his soul is doomed for eternity. There’s nothing that a man can do to keep up his soul. Man’s soul is in God’s control.
Ezekiel 18:4
4 “Behold, all souls are Mine;
The soul of the father
As well as the soul of the son is Mine;
The soul who sins shall die.
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen.
Maranatha! Come Lord Jesus!
