⁵⁸ Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.”

In Exodus 3:14, God revealed Himself to Moses as “I AM WHO I AM.” This declaration is often interpreted as God’s eternal, self-existent nature, emphasizing that He always was, is, and will be. 

Here’s a more detailed explanation:

Context: The verse appears in the context of Moses’s encounter with God at the burning bush, where God instructs Moses to tell the Israelites that He has sent Moses to deliver them from slavery. 

Self-Existence: The phrase “I AM WHO I AM” is seen as a statement of God’s aseity, meaning He exists independently and is not created. He is the ultimate source of being and existence. 

Eternal Nature: The phrase implies that God has no beginning and no end. He is timeless and eternal. 

Unchanging Nature: God’s self-existence also suggests He is immutable and unchanging. 

Yahweh: In the Hebrew Bible, this revelation is often connected to the name Yahweh, which is considered a personal name of God. 

In the above verse, this is what was spoken by Lord Jesus Christ. To the Jews, Christ declared that He was the “I AM”. Here we see that Jesus identifying with God the Father Himself. To understand the context, Jesus stated that He was before Abraham. Approximately 2000 years before Christ, Abraham was born and lived according to Genesis 25:7-8, for 175 years and died.

Once again Jesus Christ proved that He is co-equal with God and He reigns with God, who has no end and no beginning. The Jews could not understand what Jesus Christ told them because their minds were shut by God for rejecting His Son Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Today if anyone rejects Christ, God shuts their minds to know Him. Many people reject Jesus Christ because of the pride living inside of their hearts. The Jews during Jesus time thought they knew the Torah and that lead them to be more knowledgeable than any other person living on the earth. The pride in any person creates a gulf between man and God. Therefore unless and until they shun their pride, God will not open their understanding to know who Jesus Christ is. Once their minds are opened by God, then only will they realize that Christ is the true Messiah who came into this world 2000 years ago to save that was lost.

Dear heavenly Father, please accept me just the way I am. Father, the pride that is living in me separated me from knowing You. Father from this time forth, I commit my pride under the feet of Jesus to be crushed once for all. Father I accept Your invitation to come into Your presence and from I will lead a holy life. Father I accept that Jesus Christ is the only way, the truth and the life. He is the only to lead me to You Father. Father, use me for your glory. In Jesus precious name I offer this prayer. Amen and Amen.
