Bible Facts of the Day November 08, 2025 Biblical significance of modern-day Israel

Jeremiah 24:6

For I will set My eyes on them for good, and I will bring them back to this land; I will build them and not pull them down, and I will plant them and not pluck them up.

If every denominational and non-denominational Church(s) teach about the importance of the blessings that come through the blessing of the Jewish State of Israel, then we would all be living entirely in a different manner.

You see the modern state of Israel was formed in the year 1948. This formation of the state of Israel is by no means an accident. God spoke through the Old Testament Prophets and by the divine providence the scattered Jewish people were brought back into their promised land. The above verse was declared by the Lord God of Israel. It is a prophetic passage from the Book of Jeremiah.

The prophet Jeremiah was active from approximately 627 BC to around 570 BC. The time span between his ministry and the year 1948 is about 2,518 to 2,575 years, depending on which specific dates for his life and ministry are used.

1. The Modern State of Israel (1948–present)

The modern State of Israel was established in 1948, after nearly over 2,000 years of Jewish dispersion. Many believers see it as connected to God’s promises, especially in light of biblical prophecies about Israel’s preservation and return to their land.

2. God’s Promises to Israel in Scripture

A. Everlasting Covenant

“I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you… for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and your descendants after you.”
Genesis 17:7–8

God’s covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob included both land and people promises — called everlasting.
This means God’s relationship with the descendants of Israel has enduring significance.

B. Prophecies of Return

Prophets like Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel foretold that the Jewish people would be scattered — but also regathered:

“I will take you from among the nations, gather you out of all countries, and bring you into your own land.”
Ezekiel 36:24

Many see Israel’s modern restoration as a sign that God’s hand still rests upon His ancient people.

C. Preservation of the Jewish People

Despite exile, persecution, and dispersion, the Jewish people have remained distinct for a millennia.
That survival aligns with God’s promise:

“For I am with you,’ says the Lord, ‘to save you; though I make a full end of all nations where I have scattered you, yet I will not make a complete end of you.”
Jeremiah 30:11

This ongoing preservation itself testifies to God’s covenant faithfulness.

3. The New Testament Perspective

The New Testament shifts focus from national Israel to spiritual Israel — the redeemed people of God, both Jews and Gentiles in Christ (Romans 9:6–8, Galatians 3:28–29).
Yet, Paul still emphasizes that God’s plan for ethnic Israel isn’t over:

“God has not rejected His people whom He foreknew.”
Romans 11:2

“And so all Israel will be saved.”
Romans 11:26

Paul envisioned a future turning of Jewish hearts to their Messiah — suggesting ongoing divine purposes for Israel.

4. A Biblical View

  • The 1948 restoration is a direct fulfillment of prophecy.
  • God’s covenant with Abraham and the land promises still apply literally.
  • Modern Israel is a sign that we are nearing the return of Christ.

The modern nation of Israel bears witness to God’s faithfulness:

  • God preserved Israel through centuries of exile.
  • He restored them to their ancestral land.
  • And He still calls them to Himself through Christ.

So biblically, modern Israel reminds the world that God keeps His covenant with His people and His land Israel, even across thousands of years.

Heavenly Father,
We thank You that You are the God who keeps covenant and shows mercy to a thousand generations.
From Abraham to today, You have proven that Your Word never fails and Your promises stand sure.

Lord, we see in the story of Israel a reflection of Your faithfulness — that even when Your people stray, You remain steadfast in love and truth.
Thank You for preserving Israel through the ages and for fulfilling Your greatest promise through Jesus, the Messiah of Israel and Savior of the world.

Help us, O God, to honor Your purposes for all nations and to pray for the peace of Jerusalem.
May we as Your Church walk humbly, with hearts full of gratitude that we have been grafted into Your covenant grace.
Keep our eyes on Jesus, the fulfillment of every promise, until the day He returns to reign in righteousness and peace.

In His holy name we pray,
Amen.
