Matthew 7:14b (KJV)
And narrow is the way, ….
Our Lord speaking to the multitude said:
That whoever follows Lord Jesus Christ must choose the narrow way.
I. What does it mean to choose the narrow way?
- When Jesus walked on the earth, He chose the narrow/difficult way.
- The difficult way was to choose His Father’s will/mission.
II. If we claim to follow Christ, then we must seek the will of the Father at all times
- The narrow way declares that as believers in Christ we must always seek the will of the Father for the minutest things in our lives to the gigantic things.
- The narrow way does not allow for choices in life.
- The Bible declares that we did not choose Christ but Christ chose us. (John 15:16)
III. The narrow gate is a way paved by God
- Jesus showed us how to walk through the narrow way.
- The narrow way has no stops to sit down or shelters to rest.
- Jesus said, “foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to rest”. (Matt 8:20)
- Jesus worked continuously throughout His three plus years ministry.
IV. Only those who can keep up walking in the narrow way will reach their destination
- While walking through the narrow way, a believer must never look back or turn back.
- One must meditate continuously on the Word of God.
- The Word of God sustains every born again believer while walking through the narrow way.
V. Jesus was on a mission to accomplish the will of the Father.
- Walking the path that Jesus walked brings trials in our lives.
- Jesus overcame the trials by relying on the Holy Spirit, quoting scripture to resist temptation, and submitting to God’s will even in the face of immense suffering.
- Are you prepared to go through the narrow way? The grace of God sustains every step of the difficult way.
VI. Your Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path
- During Jesus’ ministry, He spoke many truths. Each Word He spoke while walking through the narrow way has become a guiding light to us.
- Lord Jesus Christ is our guiding light.
Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father,
We thank You for speaking to our hearts through Your Word today. We thank You for showing us the narrow gate and the difficult way that leads to life. Lord, we confess that without Your grace, we cannot walk this path. Strengthen us by Your Spirit to live lives of true surrender, obedience, and holiness.
Help us to resist the broad road of the world and to follow Jesus with wholehearted devotion. Keep our eyes fixed on the eternal life You have promised. When the way feels difficult, remind us that You walk with us, empower us, and will never leave us nor forsake us.
Lord, let this message bear fruit in our lives. Help us not only to hear the Word, but to do it. Lead us daily by Your truth, guard our steps, and keep us faithful until the day we see You face to face.
We ask all this in the mighty and precious name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Amen.
Maranatha!
Our Lord, come.
