2 Peter 3:3-4
God’s Promise Is Not Slack
….. that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, 4 and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? …..
Apostle Peter is reminding the believers at various Churches in Asia Minor by stirring up their minds to look for the scoffers who will come in the last days as prophesied by the Holy Prophets. Who is a scoffer? Also called as mockers, these are the ones who defy and renounce the truth and good things, not only to their own detriment and destruction, but that of others. They are provokers of others to wrong, strife, and evil. As we see in today’s culture many have left their first love which is the love of God, and have sought after the worldly pleasures. The worldly pleasures that the men are trying to seek will not last forever. As we continue to read in 2 Peter 3:10, “But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.”
The worldly pleasures that men seek after are the works of men which will be burned up without even leaving a hint that they existed. This is what Peter spoke about. We should not give a hard ear to the teachings of the scriptures. Our God is not slow in His response because He is a longsuffering Lord. Jesus Christ’s death on the cross was the most inhumane form of torture enforced by the Romans during that time. While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. The prophecies concerning the return of Jesus Christ is the truth. No one can stop His coming and no one can stand His appearance. He will be so glorious that nothing will stand in His way. As the Word of God describes, the sun and the moon will be darkened on the day of Christ’s return. So, let us prepare our hearts and minds and seek Christ for who He is.
In Jesus precious name! Amen.
Maranatha!
