Philippians 3:7
7 But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ.
Saint Paul, based on his past gains now is writing in his epistle to the Philippians that all the earthly achievements/gains are counted loss for Christ. Apostle Paul was a learned man well versed with the law or the Torah. A Pharisee by birth and adhered to the highest standards of his religion, claiming to have more confidence in the flesh than his opponents.
A person who is a truly born again Christian believer counts all of their worldly gains as loss for the sake of Lord Jesus Christ. This is what the Word of God teaches everyone of us. Nothing should be more important than the Lord Jesus Christ. He is all we need. History is full of people who tried to conquer the world but in the end left this planet without the knowledge of Christ. A sad separation for that person from Jesus Christ for eternity.
What is our life’s purpose? Shall we go on conquering life’s earthly goals? The Word of God declares that everyone should seek God through the saving grace of Lord Jesus Christ and count all the former things as loss. This is Apostle Paul’s testimony. Matthew 16:26, says “For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?” Will our commitment to Christ reflect Apostle Paul’s legacy?
Let us focus on Jesus Christ and rejoice and rest in Him at all times. In Him and Him alone is life and resurrection. In Jesus name! Amen.
Maranatha!
