James 5:7
7 Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain.
Saint James addressed this epistle to the twelve tribes of Israel. James in 5v7 is using the analogy of a farmer. The work of a farmer is very hard. Sometimes the ground is not forgiving. Before seeding the ground needs to be prepared. It needs to be tilled, rocks need to be removed and then seeds need to be sowed into the ground. During the time of Jesus, there wasn’t any irrigation systems just like today. The farmer had to wait for the rain solely. In Israel this was the time in fall called the former rain. This is when the temperatures are falling and it is the right time for the seed to germinate. And then the farmer would wait for the spring rain which is called the latter rain which helps the farmer to harvest the crop.
After all that hard work, the only thing that the farmer had to do is to wait patiently. James encourages the believers to be patient until the coming of the Lord. Many times when the world experiences turmoil, the Christians wonder when the Lord is returning. Because we expect for God to send His Son sooner than latter and restore the sanity of the people of this world. But according to the scriptures, James says to wait patiently just like the farmer. Patience is one of the nine fruits of the Spirit.
The Word of the God, encourages His children to look for the day of redemption patiently. The question every believer needs to ask themselves is that whether they have worked hard just like the farmer. If not it is never too late to start working for God, for the Holy Spirit will supply all the necessary tools required to start worshipping the Lord Jesus Christ. Let us focus on Jesus and rejoice and rest in Him at all times. In Him and Him alone is life and resurrection. In Jesus name! Amen.
