BIBLE FACTS OF THE DAY

  • God’s Word of the Day June 05 2023 And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets,

    June 5th, 2023

    Luke 24:27

27 And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.

The Gospel of Luke chapter twenty four beginning from verse thirteen through verse twenty seven, we find out that two of them walking from Jerusalem on a Easter Sunday to a nearby village called Emmaus which was seven miles away were met by Jesus on the way. The Bible does not mention where Jesus met them. But given the distance, perhaps Jesus met them as they left the Jerusalem outskirts. Jesus said to them as to why they were sad. The response from one of the them named Cleopas is that there had been a Prophet named Jesus of Nazareth who was mighty in deed and word before God and all the people and how the chief priests and rulers delivered Him to be condemned to death, and crucified Him. Cleopas continued to say that they were hoping that it was Jesus who was going to redeem Israel.

As Jesus walked with the two disciples, they failed to recognize Him. The scripture says in verse 16, that their eyes were restrained so that they did not know Jesus. Restrained means prevented.

At one point as they continued walking, Christ said in verse 25:

25 Then He said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory?”

I believe this was the reason why the two disciples eyes were restrained. Many times in our lives we fail to understand what is mentioned in the scriptures thus causing ourselves to become our own stumbling block. Our own short comings make us blind to see Jesus for who He is. In this case Jesus Himself was able to explain in detail to the two disciples, how the law (Moses) and the Prophets foretold about the coming of the Messiah. All the predictions and prophecies were fulfilled in Jesus Christ. In the Gospel of Matthew chapter five verse seventeen:

Jesus said in Matthew 5 vs 17:

17 “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.

Once again Lord Jesus Christ showed the two disciples that the purpose for which He was sent to the earth has been fulfilled.

May we all give thanks to God the Father through Jesus Christ for enabling our minds to understand the purpose of Christ’s coming into this world.

    In Jesus mighty name. Amen.

    Maranatha!
