²² So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet,

INTRODUCTION

Did it ever occur to you that the Lord can speak through people in this generation?

You see before the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ, God spoke through the prophets whom He appointed.

Every Word that is spoken by the Lord will accomplish its purpose.

Isaiah 55:11 says,

^“11 So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth;
It shall not return to Me void,
But it shall accomplish what I please,
And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.”

I. GOD CHOSE THE PROPHETS TO CONVEY THE BIRTH OF HIS SON

The birth of Christ is the greatest moment in the entire history of this creation.

You see God’s power is so great that He allowed Himself to be born out of a virgin’s womb.

Lord Jesus Christ is the God incarnate Son of God. For many people this is hard to believe but it is the truth.

II. WHY DID GOD ONLY CHOSE THE PROPHETS TO CONVEY HIS SON’S BIRTH?

1. Prophets Were God’s Authorized Messengers

 In Scripture, prophets were divinely appointed spokespersons:

 “Surely the Lord God does nothing, unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets.”

— Amos 3:7

 Prophets did not speak their own ideas; they spoke God’s words. The birth of the Messiah was not ordinary news—it was revelation, requiring divine authority and accuracy.

“Holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.”

— 2 Peter 1:21

2. The Messiah’s Birth Was Part of God’s Redemptive Plan

The birth of God’s Son was not an isolated event but the centerpiece of salvation history. Prophets were entrusted with unfolding God’s covenant plan:

• Genesis 3:15 – The Seed of the woman
• Isaiah 7:14 – Born of a virgin
• Micah 5:2 – Born in Bethlehem
• Isaiah 9:6 – A divine Son given to us

Only prophets were equipped by God to connect the birth of the Messiah to sin, redemption, covenant, and restoration.

3. God Wanted Faith, Not Spectacle

If God had announced Christ’s birth publicly centuries in advance with dates and details, it would have removed the need for faith.

“But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son.”

— Galatians 4:4

Prophetic revelation requires people to trust God’s word, not just react to visible proof. This preserved the spiritual nature of salvation.

4. Prophecy Authenticated Jesus as the Messiah

By revealing the birth through prophets across hundreds of years, God provided a verifiable test of the Messiah’s identity.

Jesus later said:

“These are they which testify of Me.”

— John 5:39

The prophets’ words became evidence, proving that Jesus’ birth was planned—not accidental.

5. Prophets Represented God’s Grace to a Rebellious World

Most prophetic messages were given during times of spiritual rebellion. God spoke through prophets to show that salvation was God’s initiative, not humanity’s achievement.

“The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light.”

— Isaiah 9:2

The Messiah’s birth was announced before the world asked for Him, highlighting grace.

6. God Reveals Before He Acts

Biblically, God often announces His work before performing it, so His sovereignty is unmistakable:

• He foretold the Flood
• He foretold Israel’s exile
• He foretold the Messiah’s birth

Prophets functioned as watchmen, preparing hearts in advance.

God chose prophets to convey His Son’s birth because:

1. Prophets spoke with divine authority
2. The birth was central to redemption
3. God desired faith, not forced belief

The same God who spoke through prophets still speaks through His Word today—calling people not merely to admire Christ’s birth, but to receive Him.
