Believers are the light of the World
Matthew 5:16
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
Wishing everyone a very Happy New Year 2023. Jesus during the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew chapter 5, opened His mouth and taught everyone listening to His voice by saying many things one of which He declared that the believers are the light of the world. By saying this, Jesus identified who these people are. These are the torch bearers of God’s Word. They are the only ones who posses the light of the world. From the ancient times, people used a single oil burning lamp to light up an entire room. Even today a single light bulb lights up an entire room. This world is filled with millions of people. Not all people are called the light of the world. But only a few selected people called by God are the light of this world. In fact, to understand better, Jesus Himself said that He is the light of this world. What did He mean by that? Since He is the creator of heavens and the earth, He is the origin of that light and the only light that anyone needs today to light up their world. Every Christ follower who follows the teachings of Jesus and obeys, he is filled with the light of Jesus Christ.
That is the reason even though there are few of the born again Christians in this world today, they are surely enough to light up the whole world. When Jesus Christ started His ministry, He appointed the twelve to be His disciples also called the Apostles. Today there are about a billion Christians who claim to be saved in this world. Only God knows the true numbers of the believers. Is this not the work of the Holy Spirit? From the beginning God’s way of doing things is by multiplying His creation (Genesis 1:28).
Here we are in the year 2023. A brand spanking new year. Never look back how bad we were, but look forward with a positive attitude and strive to get even better. The old things have passed and the new things have come. Let us declare boldly the good news to everyone as we have inherited the light of Jesus and become the light of the world starting today so that who see us may glorify the Father in heaven.
In Jesus precious name! Amen.
Maranatha!
