Ephesians 4:17
This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind,
The city of Ephesus was known for its idolatry and pagan practices. Paul traveled there on his third missionary journey and stayed there for almost three years. While living and working among the Ephesians, he started the Church in Ephesus. The Ephesian Christian believers were primarily Gentiles and their lives had not been affected by the Jewish laws or experience. Saint Paul’s teachings are still relevant today because we live in a similar culture surrounded by idolatry and pagan practices and secularism.
Apostle Paul is warning the new Christians that we are not to walk just like the non-believers. The people who do not believe God through Jesus Christ does not have the truth in them. Because there is no one to help them understand this truth. The world cannot help them. The truth is only revealed by the Holy Spirit. John 14:26 says, “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. Ephesian 4 v14 points out that we must stop acting like children and must not let deceitful people trick us by their false teachings, which are like winds that toss us around from place to place.
That is not how we learned Christ. We were taught to cast aside the old self of our former way of life that had been corrupted by its captivating desires and be renewed in the spirit of our mind(s). The new man is what a believer is in Christ. It is the new creation that a man becomes in righteousness and holiness. And this is only possible by God. In Him and Him alone is life and freedom. In Jesus name! Amen.
