Genesis 4:3
3 And in the process of time it came to pass that Cain brought an offering of the fruit of the ground to the Lord.
When we read the story of the first family in the history of creation, we find that Cain was the first son born to Adam and Eve. When Cain was born, Eve acknowledged that his birth was only by the Lord’s enablement. As the time progressed there was a time that Cain brought an offering of the fruit of the ground to the Lord. Cain thought that by offering the fruits of his labor, God would be pleased. Little did Cain know what pleased God. No doubt Cain must have worked hard tilling the ground, seeding and watering and waiting for the fruit to yield.
Many times individuals try pleasing God without acknowledging what God requires of them. They think that if they offer to God out of their hard work, their knowledge, their research, their time and their money etc., God is pleased with it. Many Christian believers miss God’s mark by offering the wrong things to God. Micah 6:8 says, “And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God“. Cain lacked the humility and the humbleness in the presence of God. Psalm 51:17 says, “The way to please You (God) is to be truly sorry deep in our hearts. This is the kind of sacrifice You (God) won’t refuse”.
When we submit the wrong requests without the will of our God, He will not respond to our prayers. Because our motives and the intents of our heart are not right. A true born again believer has to be extremely careful when submitting a request to the maker of heavens and the earth. This is the reason it is essential to develop an intimacy with God through His Son. The Holy Spirit teaches us what to seek from God. You will never read in the scripture that Cain pleaded guilty and repented of his act. After murdering his own blood brother Abel, Cain replied to God that was he was not his brother’s keeper. Was not Abel’s birth also by the Lord’s enablement? Every child born into this world is by Lord’s enablement. One can only understand these things with the help of the Holy Spirit. Seek God’s will before submitting your request to God. We have to humble ourselves with humility when entering God’s presence. He is not the man upstairs. He is the God Most High, El Elyon. In Jesus name! Amen.
