Romans 13:14
But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.
Let us examine the nature of human flesh. Galatians 5:19-21 says, “19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like.” Now all of the above mentioned things can be summed up into one word, called disobedience. The flesh that is corrupt by nature will not inherit the Kingdom of God. The mindset of man since the fall of Adam began with disobedience to the commandment God. The nature of man’s disobedience is passed on from generation to generation through Adam.
Paul mentions in Romans 13:14 to not make any kind of provision for the flesh or the fleshly lusts. Instead, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus, the Messiah. The only way provided by God to overcome disobedience is to put on the Lord Jesus Christ. There’s no other way to approach the Father who’s in Heaven except through His Son Jesus The Christ.
What happens when we put on Christ? God’s free gift of salvation through Christ acts as a garment of shield on every born again believer. Salvation means deliverance from the old sinful Adam’s nature. Not only deliverance from the old nature but protection from the fleshy desires. Putting on Jesus is not whenever you feel like. On today and off tomorrow. It’s a new covenant a binding contract forever. Let’s meditate on how to say no to the desires of the flesh and learn on how to put on Jesus Christ for eternity. In Jesus name! Amen.
Maranatha!
