Matthew 5:6
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.
When God created the living things of this world, whether vegetation, animals, or birds of the air or sea creatures and man included, He ordained hunger and thirst into the DNA of the creation. God created the taste buds that are located on the surface of the tongue and as well as other places such as the roof of the mouth. That’s why the food tastes so good when we eat the favorite food. The tongue also plays a major part when one is thirsty. In the story of the rich man and Lazarus, the rich man cries out to Abraham begging him to send Lazarus to cool his tongue to quench his thirst. In order for us to survive in this world, everyone of us has to hunger and thirst everyday. If we do not hunger and thirst for the earthly food then there is something wrong with that person and if care is not taken to remedy the problem that person is soon going to die.
Similarly a true matured born again believer must hunger and thirst for the Word of God. God writes this into the believers spiritual DNA by the Holy Spirit just as he wrote the nature of every living being to hunger and thirst in order to survive on this earth. If a believer is unable to hunger and thirst for the Word of God then there is something wrong with that person. Perhaps he or she need to re-examine their lifestyle. 1 Corinthians 2:16 says, “but we have the mind of Christ.” The mind of Christ allows the believers who hunger and thirst for righteousness, to have a passion for righteousness in their own lives and as well as they long to see others hunger and thirst for God. Every born again believer has inherited the righteousness of God because they have accepted Jesus Christ who is the righteousness of God from heaven and now we have been made right with God. Let us continue today to hunger and thirst for the righteousness of God, for only the wisdom of God will fill each one us until we meet Christ in heaven. In Jesus name! Amen.
