    Matthew 1:1

The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of David …

When we read the first passage from the Gospel of Matthew chapter 1 verse 1, Matthew the writer opens with the genealogy of Jesus Christ. The author being a Jew himself and as a tax collector emphasizes the need for the reader to understand who Jesus was. So, he begins by introducing the lineage of our Lord Jesus Christ by proving that Christ was indeed the promised Messiah and that various prophets prophesied several hundreds of years ago.

Matthew begins by introducing Abraham and his son Isaac and all the way to Jesse the father of King David (v6) and to Joseph (v16), the husband of Mary of whom Jesus was born who is called the Christ.

To those who are reading this blog, indeed Jesus Christ was the promised Messiah. The Lord declares to Nathan the prophet in 2 Samuel 7:8 “Now then, tell my servant David ….

Nathan reported to David all the words of this entire revelation. The following verse(s) from 2 Samuel 7:12, 16 reveals the messianic prophecy.

12 When your days are over and you rest with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you …, and I will establish his kingdom. 16 Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before me; your throne will be established forever.

God spoke about His Son Jesus Christ, the promised Messiah, the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords through various prophets.

    Hebrews 1:1-3

1 God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, 2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; 3 who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, 4 having become so much better than the angels, as He has by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.

Let us meditate today on God’s promise that Jesus Christ, the anointed one was indeed the promised Messiah. He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. Praise the Lord and Praise His Holy name! In Jesus name! Amen.

    Maranatha!
