Matthew 12:28
28 But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, surely the kingdom of God has come upon you.
Jesus has complete authority over the powers of darkness.
Introduction
In the first century, people lived in real fear of demons. They believed that evil spirits caused suffering, confusion, and captivity. They tried prayers, rituals, and amulets — anything to keep darkness away.
But then Jesus stepped onto the scene.
He didn’t fear demons.
He commanded them.
He confronted them.
He defeated them.
The Kingdom of God had arrived — and the powers of darkness trembled.
Demons Are Real… and They Oppress People
The Bible teaches what first-century Jews already believed:
- Demons are spiritual beings opposed to God.
- They seek to influence, torment, and destroy (John 10:10).
- They attack the mind, the body, and the soul.
This world still feels the weight of spiritual darkness:
- Addiction that chains the heart
- Fear that steals peace
- Depression that shouts lies
- Sin that refuses to let go
The enemy does not want people free.
“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood…”
— Ephesians 6:12
Jesus Has Absolute Authority Over Every Demon
In Luke 4:33–36, a demon confronts Jesus in the synagogue. But notice:
- Jesus doesn’t use spells.
- Jesus doesn’t recite rituals.
- Jesus doesn’t call on another name.
He simply commands:
“Be silent and come out of him!”
And it obeys immediately.
First-century exorcists begged for deliverance…
Jesus speaks deliverance.
“…with authority and power He commands the unclean spirits, and they come out!”
— Luke 4:36
When the Kingdom of God comes near, demons lose their grip.
The Kingdom of God Is a Kingdom of Freedom
Jesus said:
“If I drive out demons by the Spirit of God,
then the kingdom of God has come upon you.”
— Matthew 12:28
Where the King rules:
Darkness is pushed back
Captives are liberated
Torment turns into peace
Lies are replaced by truth
Jesus didn’t just teach good news —
He demonstrated good news.
He came not just to inform, but to transform.
Jesus Still Sets People Free Today
There is NO power greater than Christ’s:
- Not addiction
- Not fear
- Not demon or darkness
- Not shame or sin
Every evil power recognizes His authority:
“At the name of Jesus every knee should bow…”
— Philippians 2:10
The battle is real —
but in Jesus, the victory is guaranteed.
Application
Ask the Spirit:
- “Where am I in bondage?”
- “What lie has the enemy convinced me to believe?”
- “What part of my life needs Jesus’ authority?”
Good news:
You don’t fight for victory — you fight from victory.
Jesus is not intimidated by what intimidates you.
Conclusion
Let this be our declaration:
Jesus is Lord.
Darkness does not win.
Christ sets captives free.
Amen.
Closing Prayer
“Lord Jesus, You are the King with all authority. Drive away every oppressive power and speak freedom over our minds, bodies, and souls. Fill us with Your Spirit, protect us with Your presence, and let Your kingdom come in power. In Your mighty name — Amen.”
Maranatha! Come Lord Jesus!
