Psalm 96:13
13 For He is coming, for He is coming to judge the earth.
He shall judge the world with righteousness,
And the peoples with His truth.

God judges His creation because He is a just and holy being who cannot tolerate sin, evil, and injustice. As the Creator, He has the authority and responsibility to uphold righteousness and hold humanity accountable for their choices, ultimately seeking to reveal His glory through the confrontation of moral evil and the establishment of eternal justice and reconciliation.
Reasons for God’s Judgment
- His Holy and Just Nature: God is inherently righteous, good, and just, and His nature demands that He confront and address sin, injustice, and wrongdoing. He cannot ignore evil or stand by as it continues unchecked.
- The Existence of Sin: Sin and evil were introduced into the perfect creation by man, damaging relationships and causing widespread harm. God’s judgment is a response to this brokenness and injustice.
- Accountability and Free Will: God created humans with the ability to make choices, and with choice comes responsibility and consequences. Judgment is a way of holding people accountable for their actions and refusal to accept His forgiveness.
- Upholding Justice: Judgment serves to uphold justice and defend the vulnerable by confronting and punishing moral crimes. It ensures that wrongs are made right and that evildoers are held accountable.
The Purpose of God’s Judgment
- Reconciliation: God’s ultimate goal in judgment is not destruction but reconciliation with Him.
- Revealing His Glory: Judgment helps to reveal God’s glory by confronting and dealing with evil and demonstrating His love and grace for those who believe.
- Establishing Righteousness: By judging evil, God establishes His perfect love and justice, ensuring that His will and purpose for His creation are fulfilled.
- Reassurance of Justice: God’s judgment provides reassurance that there is a righteous standard and that justice will prevail in the universe.
God’s Role as Judge
Love and Mercy: Despite His just judgment, God is also characterized by faithfulness, mercy, compassion, and love. His judgment flows from these attributes, not from vengeance.
Creator’s Authority: As the Creator of the universe, God has the rightful authority to judge His creation.
Prophet, Priest, and King: God’s role as judge encompasses the roles of prophet, priest, and king, making Him the ultimate standard for judgment.
God judges His creation because He is the righteous, just, and sovereign Creator who has the ultimate authority to hold all things accountable. Scripture indicates that judgment is necessary to uphold His justice and faithfulness, with Romans 2:16 noting that God “will judge the secrets of men” and Ecclesiastes 12:14 stating that God will bring “every deed into judgment, with every secret thing, whether good or evil”.
The Bible declares that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that JESUS IS LORD, to the glory of God the Father. No one can escape from His judgement. Blessed be His name. Amen.
