Matthew 6:33
33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
Why should a born again Christian believer seek the kingdom of God first? Once a person has been justified by God, that person is declared as righteous in the presence of God by God Himself. Because of the shed blood of Jesus Christ and Him dying on the cross, we too have died along with Jesus and rose with Christ to a new life. This conversion is called justification. It’s an instant process and it is a past event. This is how one accepts the free gift of God’s salvation.
But that’s just the beginning of a new life because old things (old lifestyle) have passed away and new life has begun. With the new life, the Holy Spirit takes over the man’s spirit and enables the person to seek God’s kingdom. As the Holy Spirit begins to transform a person there will be opposition from within oneself. That’s the reason a newly born again believer has to intentionally seek God’s kingdom and His righteousness. The person has to develop a new taste and a new longing to seek God’s righteousness.
In the Lord’s Prayer Jesus taught us to pray that the God’s kingdom come on earth. Unless we seek the kingdom of God through His Son Jesus Christ who is the righteousness of God we are not safe from this world. The more we seek the kingdom of God, the more God takes care of His children. None of His children need to worry like the worldly people about the food, drink and clothing etc. So, today let’s seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all things will be added to us according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. In Jesus name! Amen.
