DISCERNMENT

The question is, how does one feed on the solid food from the Word of God? The writer of the Hebrews is encouraging the believers to wean off from milk and get on to solid food. As we all know when a child is born, he or she is fed on mother’s milk or using artificial milk. At some point the child is shifted to eating solid foods. Solid food enables the child to grow into youth and then into an adult. If a child is not fed with solid food then the child will have hard time growing.

Similarly, the believers are to wean off from the spiritual milk stage and switch to spending more time on the solid food that is in the Word of God in order to spiritually grow and discern. A believer must develop a regular habit of reading the scripture and meditate upon it. The believer must allocate a dedicated time of prayer every day and night. The believer must learn to fellowship with the Holy Spirit. He or She should not be carried away by the worldly teachings. Encountering God must become the primary goal in a believer’s life.

Apostle Peter writes in second Peter chapter three and verse eighteen this:

2 Peter 3:18

¹⁸ but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

When a believer spends more time in reading and meditating on the Word of God, he begins to grow spiritually. Without fellowshipping with God no spiritual growth is obtained. There is no shortcut to achieve this. This is the reason many Christians are still feeding on milk and they are unable to go to the next level for they do not seek God for help.

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen.
