Bible Facts Of The Day, October 23, 2025 Jesus, The Name Above Every Name

“Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men’s hands.”
Idols are human creations, not divine.
They may appear valuable — silver and gold — but they are lifeless.
Modern idols are not carved images but can be money, success, comfort, power, or self.
Truth: What we build and trust apart from God will ultimately betray us.
Question: What have I made or trusted that has taken God’s place in my life?

2. The Idols Are Powerless (vv.5–7)

“They have mouths, but they do not speak; eyes they have, but they do not see…”
The psalmist exposes the emptiness of idols.
They can’t communicate, see your struggle, or answer prayer.
In contrast, the living God speaks through His Word, sees our pain, and acts in power.
Illustration:
Elijah and the prophets of Baal (1 Kings 18) — they cried all day to a silent god. Elijah prayed once, and fire fell from heaven.
Lesson: Idols are silent; our God still speaks. Idols are still; our God still saves.

3. The Idols Corrupt Their Worshipers (v.8)

“Those who make them are like them; so is everyone who trusts in them.”
What we worship shapes us.
If we worship lifeless things, we become spiritually lifeless — blind, deaf, and dull to God’s presence.
But if we worship the living God, His life and character begin to transform us.
2 Corinthians 3:18:
“We all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image…”
Application:
The more we worship God, the more alive we become.

4. The Call to Trust the Living God (v.9)

“O Israel, trust in the LORD; He is their help and their shield.”
After mocking the idols, the psalmist turns us toward trust.
The living God is our help in trouble and our shield in battle.
He made the heavens (v.15) — He is not made by human hands.
Challenge:
Lay down your idols today — anything that steals your heart’s affection or your mind’s attention from God.
Put your trust in the God who lives, who saves, and who never fails.

Conclusion

Idolatry is not just about statues — it’s about the heart’s loyalty.
Every day we must choose between lifeless idols and the living God.
Only one can save. Only one can give life.
That one is Jesus Christ, the living image of the invisible God (Colossians 1:15).
“Those who make idols are like them; so is everyone who trusts in them.”
But those who trust in the Lord become alive and strong in His presence.

Closing Prayer
Lord God Almighty,
Thank You for reminding us today that You alone are the living and true God.
Forgive us for the times we have trusted in things that cannot speak, see, or save.
Break every idol in our hearts and teach us to worship You alone.
Fill us with Your Spirit, that we may reflect Your life, Your love, and Your power in this world.
May our trust always rest in You — our help, our shield, and our Savior.
In the name of Jesus Christ, the living Lord, we pray.
Amen.
